We are so excited to be partnering with our friends at Jones Dairy Farm to bring you a scrumptious breakfast or brunch recipe perfect for the holidays with family and friends, starring one of my favorite ingredients: Jones Dairy Farm All Natural Pork Sausage!!!
Munchkin is growing up so fast, I can't believe that she is 7! We started this site 6 years ago when she was 1 1/2 and she has been cooking right beside me ever since. With Chad and I so involved in the food world, she follows in our footsteps with a serious interest in cooking and planning out our meals.
Well, actually at this point she wants to make the recipes not just watch. While we were working on our cookbook (The Simple Kitchen - available for preorder) we came up with the idea for pizza pinwheels. She absolutely loves pizza and I thought that would be a fun way to switch it up. Needless to say, they were a huge hit!
So, when we were talking about fun breakfast/brinner ideas, we thought a breakfast pinwheel would totally rock our worlds and oh my gosh, we were so right!
This has to be the most fun that I have ever had working on a recipe. Like I said, Munchkin has been working with me in the kitchen and Chad in photo shoots since she was little, but to get her involved in the process was absolutely so much fun!
I put together a sweet and tender milk and honey bread dough. Then I rolled it out and Munchkin topped with 2 kinds of cheese, sausage, bacon and eggs and we rolled it up! Then we sliced and baked it. In a snap it was ready to eat, start to finish in an hour!
Soft and tender milk and honey bread filled with scrambled eggs, bacon, sausage and 2 scrumptious kinds of cheese to add just enough flavor to make this a new favorite!
Chad has literally been eating these every day for 2 weeks. He swears they remind him of his favorite stuffing in a fabulous breakfast. He can't get enough and I am sure your crew is going to go crazy over them too. Just follow the make-ahead freezing directions and you can make these with the kids on the weekend and enjoy them all week long.
I will let you all know that you can pick up Jones Dairy Farm products at your local retailer. The company’s products are distributed nationwide, so be sure to check out their product locator to see where you can pick some up. If you’re looking for the breakfast sausage, it’s in the freezer section!
This bread is super simple, great for a party, and can be prepped ahead of time if you're in a pinch when party planning. It's a great touch on a holiday table as an alternative to traditional rolls.

Cheesy Sausage Breakfast Pinwheels are a simple recipe made with soft and tender bread filled with your favorite breakfast fixin's. It's like unrolling a little piece of heaven loaded with smoky bacon, pork sausage, scrambled eggs and ooey gooey cheese! The best part is you can make them ahead so they are perfect for back to school. Have fun making them with the kids on the weekend. Then heat them up and grab one as they are heading out the door!
Ingredients
For the Dough
4 1/2 tsp active dry yeast (2 packets)
1 1/4 cups warm milk (110° to 115°)
1/4 cup honey
8 tbsp unsalted butter, melted (divided)
4 cups all-purpose flour
1 1/2 tsp kosher salt
For the Filling
1/4 cup chopped scallions
4 ounces pepperjack cheese, shredded
6 large eggs, scrambled
1/2 cup Jones Dairy Farm Dry Aged Bacon, cooked and chopped
In the bowl of a stand mixer fitted with a dough hook; add yeast, milk and honey. Swirl with a spoon to dissolve the yeast. Allow the mixture to rest until the yeast becomes foamy and aromatic, about 3 minutes.
Add 3 tablespoons of butter and 3 1/2 cups flour, mix on low until smooth. Add remaining flour to form a soft dough. Add salt. Allow to knead for about 3 minutes. Ball of dough should be slightly sticky.
Meanwhile, grease 9"x13" baking pan with 2 tablespoons remaining melted butter. Set aside.
Turn the dough out onto a lightly floured countertop and form into a ball. Roll the dough out into a 12"x18" wide rectangle. Sprinkle the scallions and pepperjack cheese evenly over the dough leaving a 1" border on the top edge. Lightly press the scallions and cheese into the dough with fingertips or rolling pin.
Add eggs, bacon and sausage in alternating rows over the top. Sprinkle the cheddar cheese evenly over top.
Starting at the long edge, fold the edge of the dough on top of itself and begin tightly rolling the dough away, pinching the ingredients into the roll. Use the last 1” to seal the roll. Cut dough roll in quarters. Cut each of those pieces into 3 pieces for 12 pieces.
Arrange the pinwheels cut side up on the buttered baking sheet, spread them out so they are not touching. Bake 20-25 minutes or until golden brown and cooked through. Brush with remaining 3 tablespoons melted butter.
Serve and enjoy!
DONNA'S NOTES
This recipe can be made ahead of time and frozen until ready to enjoy. Cool baked pinwheels in freezer bag. Thaw and bake for 10 minutes at 350°F.

Cheesy Bacon and Egg Breakfast Bombs are soft and tender portable poppers, stuffed with smoky bacon, scrambled eggs, and ooey-gooey cheese, topped with garlic herb butter! This scrumptious recipe is the pull apart egg breakfast of your dreams!
It gets even better than that; you can make these ahead. That's right! Prep them the night before and pop them in the oven in the morning.
Nothing says 'holiday' like starting the day with a special breakfast.
Whether it is Thanksgiving, Christmas, New Years or a Father's Day I love starting the day off with a scrumptious homemade hot breakfast.
As I have shared many times, I am not much of a morning person. Which kind of throws a wrench in those morning breakfast plans.
I would love to get up at 5 AM and start making breakfast from scratch. But let's be honest, that's not happening!
Most days my crew will usually eat cereal, and I will grab a protein shake.
The only hot breakfast my family and friends are going to be eating is one that I prepared the night before, and I can toss in the oven in the morning.
That is one of the many reasons I absolutely love love love make-ahead breakfasts!
They are awesome for less stress and more time to spend with your family and friends.
Helpful Tips to make Cheesy Bacon and Egg Breakfast Bombs:
If you would like these to be round (more like our traditional bomb series) and less like a pull-apart bread you can bake them on a cookie sheet about 2-3 inches away from each other.
If you prefer, you can use a pastry roller or small rolling pin to roll these bombs out.
What you will need to make Cheesy Bacon and Egg Breakfast Bombs:
Mixing bowls – Combine all of the ingredients for this salad in a large mixing bowl.
Whisk - I have had this set for over 10 years and it is still as good as the day I bought it. With 3 sizes there is a whisk for every job.
Cheese Grater-As much as I love buying shredded cheese because I'm lazy, freshly grated cheese melts down so much better and creates a smoother recipe.
Enjoy!
With love from our simple kitchen to yours.

Cheesy Bacon and Egg Breakfast Bombs
Cheesy Bacon and Egg Breakfast Bombs are soft and tender portable poppers, stuffed with smoky bacon, scrambled eggs and ooey-gooey cheese! This scrumptious recipe is the pull-apart breakfast of your dreams!
Ingredients
1 pound Applewood smoked bacon
4 large eggs
2 tablespoons whole milk
1/8 teaspoon kosher salt
pinch black pepper
16 frozen dinner yeast roll dough balls
flour (to dust counter)
8 ounces shredded mild cheddar cheese
1 medium jalapeno, diced
1/4 cup roasted red peppers, diced
Garlic Herb Butter
4 tablespoons unsalted butter
1/2 teaspoon garlic powder
1/2 teaspoon dried parsley
1/4 teaspoon kosher salt
Instructions
Prepare bacon. I love my bacon in the oven. Bake at 400ΒΊF on a baking sheet. Cook 15-25 minutes or until desired crispness is reached. Remove from the oven. Allow to cool and chop into bite-size pieces.
Meanwhile: Prepare the eggs. In a medium bowl combine eggs, milk, salt, and pepper. Whisk until completely combined. Spray a small skillet with non-stick cooking spray. Heat skillet over medium heat. Add the egg mixture and stir occasionally until the eggs are scrambled, and no liquid is left in the pan, about 3-4 minutes. Do not cook until they are completely dry, or they will be very dry in the breakfast bomb. Set aside to cool.
Place dinner rolls on a microwave-safe plate and microwave on defrost for about 3-4 minutes (or until dough is no longer frozen, but not cooked). Butter a 9" pie plate or a 9"x9" baking pan and set aside.
Lightly flour your countertop. Toss 1 piece of dough in flour and flatten and stretch like you are making a mini pizza. Stretch dough to about 3-4” across.
Sprinkle a tablespoon of cheese over the dough and press into the dough with the palm of your hand. Top with one tablespoon eggs, one tablespoon bacon, 1/2 teaspoon jalapenos, and 1/2 teaspoon red peppers onto the center of the dough round. Pull the top and bottom edges of the dough together and then add the left and right edges. Pinch the dough together to create a ball. If the ball won’t seal, tap your fingertips into the flour and then crimp the seal together. Place dough ball in prepared dish. Repeat until all breakfast bombs are in the dish.
Spray a piece of plastic wrap with non-stick spray, place the wrap sprayed side down on the breakfast bombs. Refrigerate until morning or proceed with instructions immediately (cook time will be about 30-35 minutes if not refrigerated).
Preheat oven to 350°F.
Remove baking dish from the refrigerator, remove plastic wrap. Bake for 40-45 minutes until the tops are golden brown and the breakfast bombs are no longer doughy. You can pull one of the edge pieces out and if it is still doughy cook it for another 5 minutes. Cover with foil if the tops start getting too brown (I covered mine at 25 minutes).
Meanwhile: In a small bowl melt butter in the microwave, about 30 seconds or until butter is melted. Add garlic, parsley, and salt. Stir with a pastry brush. Remove breakfast bombs from the oven. Brush them with melted butter mixture.
Serve and enjoy!

If you would like these to be round (more like our traditional bomb series) and less like a pull-apart bread you can bake them on a cookie sheet about 2-3 inches away from each other.

This Mexican breakfast casserole is a simple dish with Tex-Mex flavors. Make this Mexican lasagna recipe for an easy weekend brunch!
Layer upon layer of corn tortillas, bacon, and gooey cheese are all inside of this scrumptious breakfast lasagna.
To save time, you can make it ahead. Then, just pop it in the oven when you wake up in the morning!
Another delicious egg and sausage casserole recipe that you should try is an Overnight Cheesy Breakfast Casserole. It combines all your favorite morning flavors over a layer of buttery biscuits.
Assemble everything, then cover and refrigerate overnight. Then, allow the casserole to sit on the counter for about 30 minutes before baking as directed.
Handling peppers safely
It’s always a good idea to wear gloves when handling jalapeΓ±os, especially when deveining and chopping.
The oils in the peppers can cause irritations to the eyes and skin, and soap and water don’t always remove them all.
Shred your own cheese
Always buy blocks of cheese, then shred it yourself. Bags with shredded cheese contain a preservative to keep the cheese from clumping.
Unfortunately, the preservative also gives the cheese a waxy texture and also prevents the cheese from melting well.
Flavor variations
Breakfast casseroles are very versatile, and it’s easy to add or substitute ingredients so it tastes just how you like it!
Mix-ins - Include black beans in one of the layers for added protein, or try corn and bell peppers for an extra serving of veggies.
Other meats - Convert this to an egg and sausage casserole recipe by replacing some or all of the bacon with ground pork, chicken, or turkey sausage.
Add avocado - Have a bowl of fresh avocado chunks available to sprinkle over the top just before eating.
Make it vegetarian - Use plant-based bacon, vegan crumbles, or sauteed mushrooms instead of the pork bacon.
Extra spicy - Stir a few dashes of your favorite hot sauce in with the egg mixture, or dice a chipotle chile in adobo to add to the jalapeno.
Kitchen tools for making this recipe
9x13 baking dish - I have my favorites, and this set is one of them. The larger size is perfect for recipes like this. Use the smaller one for halving the recipe or splitting this breakfast lasagna into two pans so you can take one to family and keep one for yourself!
Mixing bowls - I like a variety of mixing bowls and prep bowls, and this set has them all.
FAQ: recipe questions
Can I use flour tortillas instead of corn tortillas?
The recipe works fine with flour tortillas, although they will be softer and may not hold their shape as well.
How long can you keep an egg casserole in the fridge?
A baked breakfast casserole like this is typically safe to eat for up to 5 days. Store well covered or transfer to an airtight container to keep it fresh.
Can I freeze this casserole?
Yes! After baking the casserole, allow it to cool. Then, cover the casserole dish with foil and you can keep it in the freezer for up to 2 months.
Before you reheat it, allow the dish to thaw in the refrigerator overnight. Then, bake at 350 degrees F for 20-20 minutes, or until warmed through.
NOTE: If your casserole dish isn’t freezer-safe, you will need to transfer the contents to a freezable container.
Enjoy!

French Toast Casserole is a make ahead breakfast casserole that you can toss in the oven while you get ready for the day. Make this recipe for a delicious breakfast that your family will thank you for.
This recipe is an old family favorite that was originally shared with you 6 1/2 years ago. It is DEFINITELY a reader favorite.
So, we decided to share it with you again. We enjoy this breakfast on holidays and sometimes just because. It has truly become a tradition that we look forward to.
Special occasion meals
Father's Day is such a special day for us, as it is for most people.
Take the day to really celebrate the important man in your life! Make a special breakfast to remind him just how special he is.
My husband is a wonderful father to our Munchkin, and an amazing husband as well. We spend the day taking part in our favorite family activities. So, I like to start off with a very special breakfast.
By special, I mean out of the ordinary for us. We tend to have a very healthy breakfast each day. Once in a while, we go out on a limb, making buttermilk pancakes on a Sunday.
Well, I have been making Sugar Cookie French Toast for special occasions for quite some time. Any kind of french toast is my husbands favorite.
French Toast Casserole
So for this special occasion, I decided to try this French Toast Casserole I have been drooling over for quite some time.
I have to tell you it is so decadent, so flavorful, so divine.... There are barely words!
The bread has a consistency like the most incredible bread pudding. The custard mixture bakes into the bread, and the topping is such a delightful treat.
You can leave the maple syrup off this french toast. I think it would spoil the flavor. It is THAT good!!!
Updated 5/10/14: We love this recipe so much we have made it countless times over the last 4 years. I have made some changes and added several notes to the bottom of the recipe. Be sure to check out the notes.
Helpful tips for making French toast casserole
How to prevent soggy French toast
We have been enjoying this recipe for 6 years. I have made a few changes. There is less milk/cream than in the original recipe, as the bread is sometimes too moist for my taste.
Substitute for half and half
Half and half is a dairy product found in the USA. You can substitute half cream and half milk for half-and-half. You can also use any combination of all cream to all milk as long as you are adding 1-1/2 cups total.
Praline topping
In the original casserole recipe, the praline topping included corn syrup. It really doesn't need it, so it is no longer in the recipe.
Serving suggestions
This french toast casserole is amazing served with fresh berries instead of the praline topping if you are looking to lighten it up.
Freezing the casserole
The leftovers freeze VERY well! We eat about 1/4 of the pan. I freeze the leftovers in 3 containers, so when we want a special breakfast I just thaw it and pop it in the oven at 350 for about 10 minutes. Perfect.
KITCHEN TOOLS TO MAKE THIS RECIPE
9 x 13 Baking Dish - I have my favorites and this set is one of them. The 9x13 is perfect for casseroles and the smaller size is awesome for making 1/2 a casserole recipe.
Mixing Bowls - I like a variety of mixing bowls and prep bowls and this set has them all.
Whisk - I have had this set for over 10 years and it is still as good as the day I bought it. With 3 sizes there is a whisk for every job.
Bread Knife - I love a good bread knife. It is one of my essential knives. This one, I have been using for a decade! I also love to slice tomatoes with it.
Enjoy!

Make Ahead French Toast Casserole
Prep the night before and throw it in the oven while you are getting ready for the day. Easy breakfast recipe that your family will thank you for!
Ingredients
butter (for preparing baking dish)
1 loaf French bread
8 large eggs
1 cup half-and-half
1/2 cup milk
2 tablespoons granulated sugar
1 tablespoon vanilla extract (or vanilla bean paste if you want to really jazz it up)
1/2 teaspoon ground cinnamon
1/4 teaspoon ground nutmeg
1/4 teaspoon salt
Praline Topping
2 sticks unsalted butter, room temperature
1 cup packed light brown sugar
1 cup chopped pecans
1/2 teaspoon ground cinnamon
1/2 teaspoon ground nutmeg
Instructions
Prepare a 9"x13" baking dish by generously buttering the entire inside of the dish. Set the baking dish aside.
Slice the French bread, on the bias approximately 1-inch thick. Arrange slices in your prepared baking dish in 2 rows, overlapping the slices. Set dish aside. In a large bowl, whisk eggs. Add half-and-half, milk, sugar, vanilla, cinnamon, nutmeg, and salt. Whisk until well combined.
Pour the egg mixture over the bread slices, making sure they are covered evenly with the milk-egg mixture. Spoon some of the mixture in between the slices. I like to make sure all my slices are good and coated. Even dunking them in the mixture sometimes. Cover with foil and refrigerate overnight.
The next day, preheat oven to 350°F. Meanwhile, prepare the praline topping by combining all ingredients in a medium bowl and mix to combine. Scoop out praline topping and make 8 dollops of topping. Then spread Praline Topping evenly over the bread (like you are icing a cake).
Bake for 40 minutes, until puffed and lightly golden.
Serve and enjoy!

Make-ahead freezer breakfast burritos are loaded with your favorite fillings. Eggs, sausage, bacon and tater tots are topped with ooey gooey cheese, and fresh vegetables. Just make up this easy recipe and toss them in the freezer. Pop them in the microwave in the morning for an easy grab and go breakfast. Perfect for back to school.
The best way to start your day off is with a good breakfast. Perhaps something hearty that will give you energy for the hours to come. But not everyone is that fortunate.
To this day, I express my gratitude daily for a fully stocked pantry! I have instilled this gratitude in my daughter as we never know what tomorrow holds.
Growing up my parents really struggled to make ends meet. My dad worked several jobs and he worked more than he was home. My mom ran a daycare out of our home and was virtually raising us 5 kids on her own while my dad was working.
Missed birthdays, holidays and family days are too many to be counted, but with all their hard work and dedication we never missed a meal. My mom told me years later that some months were dicey. But they always managed to make it work.

If you would like to serve these immediately, wrap in foil and place on a baking sheet in a preheated 400ΒΊF oven. Bake for 10-12 minutes or until heated through.
You can make the bacon, sausage, tater tots and eggs ahead. The burritos are best with room temperature ingredients, which eliminate the steam that can make burritos soft and soggy. No Bueno! <- No good.
I toss the bacon and the tater tots in the oven at the same time and prepare the sausage and eggs on the stovetop to save time.

Make-ahead breakfast burritos are loaded with your favorite fillings. Eggs, sausage, bacon and tator tots are topped with ooey gooey cheese, and fresh vegetables. Just make up this easy recipe and toss them in the freezer. Pop them in the microwave in the morning for an easy grab and go breakfast.
prep time: 30 minscook time: 30 minstotal time: 60 mins
Ingredients
1/2 (16-ounce) bag of frozen tater tots
1 pound applewood-smoked bacon, cooked and chopped
1 pound breakfast sausage
12 large eggs
1/2 cup whole milk
1/2 teaspoon kosher salt
1/4 teaspoon black pepper
8 large flour tortillas
8 ounces O Organic shredded Mexican cheese blend
2 Roma tomatoes, seeds removed and diced
a handful of fresh parsley, chopped
Instructions
Prepare tater tots according to package directions. I prefer mine in the oven until crispy.
Meanwhile, prepare bacon. I love my bacon in the oven. 400ΒΊF on a baking sheet. Cook 15-25 minutes or until desired doneness is reached. Remove from the oven. Allow to cool and chop into bite-size pieces.
In a medium skillet over medium-high heat, cook the breakfast sausage. Be sure to break the meat up with a spatula as it cooks. Once cooked completely, drain (if necessary) and set aside.
In a large bowl (I use an 8-cup measuring cup) combine eggs, milk, salt, and pepper. Whisk until completely combined.
Spray a large skillet with non-stick cooking spray. Heat skillet over medium heat. Add the egg mixture and stir occasionally until the eggs are scrambled and no liquid is left in the pan, about 5 minutes. Do not cook until they are completely dry, or they will be very dry in the burrito.
To assemble burritos: lay one burrito on the counter. Add about 1 ounce of cheese. Top with a sprinkle of tomatoes and parsley. Add sausage, bacon, about 1/2 cup egg mixture and a big spoon of tater tots.
Fold the outer edges into the burrito and hold in place with your middle, ring and pinky fingers. Gather the edge of the burrito closest to you with your thumb and index finger. Fold the burrito over and around the filling, tuck the edge under the filling. It should look like a burrito with one side open now. Pull the rolled portion of the burrito snug as you continue to roll the rest of the burrito, folding in the sides of the untucked side like an accordion a few times until the burrito is closed.
Place the burrito seam side down on a sheet of foil or plastic wrap. Wrap the burrito snuggly and place it in a one-gallon freezer bag. Repeat until all burritos are in the freezer bag. Freeze for up to 3 months.
Reheat Directions: Remove foil or plastic wrap from the burrito and wrap it with a paper towel. Microwave for 2-3 minutes or until heated through.
