Hey friends, it's Julia from Plated Cravings here. I’m happy to be a contributor on TSRI and share some of my favorite recipes with Donna and Chad's lovely readers.

This brownie recipe makes a great dessert for a party or summer get-together. You might ask why they’re called slutty brownies?

I would say because they are over the top indulgent, delicious, AND they’re pretty easy to make.

You could easily make these Oreo cookie brownies using a box of brownie mix or your favorite chilled chocolate chip cookie dough if you’re short on time!

In fact many slutty brownie recipes are completely made from the box and yes, that’s easier, but trust me and make them from scratch instead.

These are SO good, and you probably have everything you need to make them in your pantry.

Slutty Brownies Recipe Notes

  • You can use any kind of Oreos for this recipe.
  • I always line my baking pans with parchment paper. Not only does it make clean up easier, but it also lets you lift the brownies easily from the pan.
  • I like to use Dutch-process cocoa powder for my brownies because it dissolves easily. Plus, it gives the brownies a darker color.
  • All ovens are different so I recommend using a wooden skewer or toothpick to check for doneness. Make sure to bake the brownies in the lower third of the oven.
  • Slutty brownies are very rich! As a result, you may want to cut them into 16 squares instead of 9. Be sure to serve them with milk.
  • To make this recipe easier you can use a brownie mix or your favorite cookie dough instead of making it from scratch. Perfect for days when you are super busy, but still want something a little more special!
  • The cookie layer will be chewy and soft. Perfect for every cookie dough lover! If you want the layer to be less soft try baking the cookie layer for a few minutes before adding the Oreo cookies and the brownie batter.

Ingredient notes and supplies:

  • Brownie Pan - I love this pan! It’s super easy to clean, everything slides right off and there is also a version with a lid so it’s easy to transport and store baked brownies or cakes.
  • Dutch-process cocoa powder - I love to use this cocoa powder for baking because it dissolves easily and is darker in color.
  • Chocolate Chips - According to America’s Test Kitchen these are the best chocolate chips!

Enjoy!

With love from our simple kitchen to yours.

Christmas Sugar Cookies (With VIDEO)

Christmas sugar cookies (also known as cut out cookies) are a family tradition. This simple recipe for the perfect dough stays put (doesn't spread) and tastes amazing! A sweet cookie that is slightly crispy on the edges and soft and chewy throughout with the fabulous flavors of vanilla and almond. Not to mention, aren't they the prettiest cookies you have ever seen?
This simple recipe for the perfect dough stays put Christmas Sugar Cookies (With VIDEO)

The days are escaping quickly which is a pretty good indication that Christmas is almost here.  Another sign would be the four batches of sugar cookie dough that are chilling in the fridge waiting to be rolled and cut. Along with the Best Ever Sugar Cookie Icing.

Cookies to ship, cookies to go into Christmas gifts and also ones to fill the gratitude baskets we give out each year (to the people who have touched our lives - mail carrier, bank teller, mechanic, neighbor, cashier at Wal-mart.  Anyone who has been special to us this year).

No basket, gift or package would be complete without my sugar cookies (so I am told).  My munchkin has started enjoying in this tradition already.

She looks adorable in her apron, holding a giant rolling pin and rolling out the dough.  Helping cut it out and the most fun has been decorating. But, we will talk more about that later.

This is one of the many popular sugar cookie recipes out there.  More than the base of the recipe, the method will really make a difference.

Chilling the dough before it is rolled and again after it is cut, gives you beautiful and crisp lines on your cookies.

If you have a hard time with sticking try a non stick silicone baking sheet liner with parchment paper on top.  It works perfectly for me.

But, if your cookies do come out of the oven a little poofy, use a flat metal spatula to gently press down on the tops while they are cooling on the baking sheet.

Dough keeps in the fridge for 2 weeks and in the freezer for at least 2 months (from my personal experience).

Good luck and happy baking!  With love from our Simply Delicious kitchen to yours!

Helpful Tips to make Christmas Sugar Cookies:

  • Our favorite baker told us years ago that the trick to cut-out cookies keeping their shape was to skip the leavening. Now they are perfect every time.
  • We got this brilliant tip for shipping cookies from our friend who owns a cookie shop, and it works so well. Package the cookies individually and tape them to a piece of cardboard. Wrap the cardboard in bubble wrap. You can stack multiple layers of cookies.
  • If you are sensitive to almond, you can use all vanilla extract.

What you will need to make Christmas Sugar Cookies:

  • Star Cookie Cutter - this is the cookie cutter I have been making snowflake cookies with for over 10 years.
  • Christmas Tree Cookie Cutter the size of this cutter is impressive and the comfort grip makes for cookie cutting fun without sore hands.
  • Decorating Squeeze Bottle are perfect for icing cookies. Great for the whole family.
  • Baking Sheets - Jelly Roll Pans (baking sheets with sides) - used for everything from cookies to roasting, a good baking pan will last for years.
  • Gel Food Coloring is perfect for baked goods and coloring frosting.
  • Silpat Mats  are perfect for everything. We use them for rolling out doughs, baking cookies, biscuits and other desserts. They are also great for transporting pans. Just line a baking sheet and place your baking dishes on the mat. It provides a non-slip surface for traveling.
  • Cooling Racks

Enjoy!

Christmas Sugar Cookies (Cut Out Cookies)

Christmas sugar cookies (also known as cut out cookies) are a family tradition. This simple recipe for the perfect dough stays put (doesn't spread) and tastes amazing! A sweet cookie that is slightly crispy on the edges and soft and chewy throughout with the fabulous flavors of vanilla and almond. Not to mention, aren't they the prettiest cookies you have ever seen?

Ingredients

  • 1 cup (2 sticks) unsalted butter, room temperature
  • 1 cup granulated sugar
  • 2 large eggs, room temperature
  • 1 teaspoon pure vanilla extract
  • 1 teaspoon almond extract
  • 3-4 cups all purpose flour
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • Best Ever Sugar Cookie Icing
  • Pearl Sugar Balls (dragees)

Instructions

  1. In the bowl of your electric mixer (or with a hand mixer), cream the butter and sugar, on medium speed until light and fluffy (about 3 minutes).
  2. Add the eggs, vanilla and almond.  Beat until combined. Add the salt and 3 cups of flour; beat until you have a smooth dough. If the dough is sticky (meaning when you touch it and pull your fingers away the dough sticks to you), add more flour a tablespoon at a time until it comes together. Divide the dough in half and wrap each half in plastic wrap. Refrigerate for about one hour or until firm enough to roll.
  3. Preheat oven to 375°F. Line two baking sheets with parchment paper or silpat mats.
  4. Remove half of the chilled dough from the refrigerator and, on a lightly floured surface, roll out the dough to a thickness of 1/4 inch. (Keep turning the dough as you roll, making sure the dough does not stick to the counter.)  Cut out desired shapes using a lightly floured cookie cutter and transfer cookies to baking sheet.
  5. Place the baking sheets with the unbaked cookies in the refrigerator for about 15 minutes to chill the dough which prevents the cookies from spreading and losing their shape while baking. Note: If you are not going to frost the baked cookies, you can sprinkle the unbaked cookies with sparkling sugar at this point.
  6. Bake the cookies for about 9-11 minutes (depending on size) or until the edges are just starting to brown. Remove from oven and let cookies cool on baking sheet for 5 minutes before transferring to a wire rack to finish cooling. Decorate the cookies with Best Ever Sugar Cookie Icing if desired. Be sure to let the icing dry completely before storing. (This may take several hours or overnight.)

It's the ultimate treat. A creamy, fudgy, crunchy, peanut buttery treat that has the right touch of chocolate and is perfectly sweet! Hurry, you probably have everything you need to make this in your pantry!

It all starts with a divine peanut butter and white chocolate base. It is stirred into rice krispies and then combined with fluffy mini-marshmallows and chocolate chips.

I first discovered  Rocky Mountain Chocolate Factory during a visit to Sedona. The aroma from the store was wafting down the sidewalk and it just about lifted me up by the nose and escorted me inside. My head was swirling. There was case after case of delicious treats to enjoy.

I was with Chad and my then 5-year-old daughter. I couldn't make a decision, everything looks soooo good. We each ordered 2 things to try and all shared. We pretty much declared their Avalanche Bark the best thing on the planet.

Well after a few more run-ins with Rocky Mountain Chocolate Factory and many more treats, I decided to work on a copycat make a home version. If you got a gift basket from me this Christmas, it certainly had a few of these fabulous cookies in a treat bag.

After Chad's spectacular review of our No-Bake Avalanche Cookies: "they taste like magic" I couldn't help but share them.  If you have never had the opportunity to sample this heavenly confection, let me tell you all about it and then you can run (don't walk) to you kitchen and prepare this easy 5 ingredient recipe.

It all starts with a divine peanut butter and vanilla candy base. It is stirred into rice krispies and then combined with fluffy mini-marshmallows and chocolate chips. It's the ultimate treat. A creamy, fudgy, crunchy, peanut buttery treat that has the right touch of chocolate and is perfectly sweet!

Imagine adding Rice Krispies, mini marshmallow and chocolate chips to peanut butter fudge. That's what this genius creation is like! You are going to love it.

Chad and I were married a few days before Christmas, 11 years ago, in a dreamy Winter Wonderland wedding.

We had snowflakes and icicles hung everywhere and we were lucky enough to have the coldest day of the year (in Phoenix).

We set up a hot cocoa and cookie table in lieu of appetizers and everyone commented on the cookies! So, needless to say after our wedding we decided that the perfect thank you would be snowflake cookies.

Ever since then I have been on a mission to create the perfect cookie.  I had the most incredible cookie recipe but I worked for a few years to create the perfect recipe for the icing.

Finally, after so many requests we are sharing it with you today.  Perfectly sweetened and flavored with almond to give it an extra something.

With only 4 ingredients and about 5 minutes, you can whip this icing up. It dries with a gorgeous sheen and tastes amazing!

Helpful Tips to make Best Tasting Sugar Cookie Icing:

  • The icing will dry hard. It can take up to overnight before I would recommend stacking them. I store mine on cookie sheets tented with foil to keep the cookie bottoms from drying out while they are drying.
  • You absolutely can substitute vanilla extract (or any other extract). Keep in mind, it will give your icing a slightly off white hue but if you are coloring it anyway it won't matter.
  • This icing will keep for several weeks on the countertop, in a sealed container. I actually keep mine much longer than that.
  • We have received some questions about cloudy spots on the iced cookies. I have never had to deal with spots, I live in Arizona and it is a very dry climate and we use air conditioning to cool (which is also very dry). I know that too much humidity can cause icing to get spots. Do you live in a humid climate or use a swamp cooler? I would try a dehumidifier while you are making cookies to help the issue or stick to white icing (actually add white color to the icing) or try working with thicker icing. Or try using thicker icing. That will remove some of the water content and allow the cookies to dry faster. Also make sure the cookies are 100% dry before closing them in a container.

Enjoy!

Easter Pinwheel Cookies

Our Christmas Pinwheel Cookies have been a favorite for years. After sharing them on Facebook in February we realized we needed another holiday version. We are so excited to create these super fun Easter Pinwheel Cookies to enjoy during spring time.

are soft and chewy sugar cookies with a festive Easter spin Easter Pinwheel Cookies

What are pinwheel cookies?

Pinwheel cookies are made by rolling 2 colors of dough together. To get two colors of dough, separate dough and add food coloring to one half. Then roll each dough ball out into a rectangle and lay one on top of the other.

Then roll the dough up. Decorate it with nonpareil sprinkles, if desired. Slice and bake.

Ingredients

You won’t need any expensive ingredients to make this recipe, but the boost in flavor is delicious! Here’s what you’ll need:
  • Best ever sugar cookie dough - Try our easy recipe or use your favorite. Store-bought dough will even work in this recipe.
  • Pastel Nonpareils - round sugar sprinkles that add the perfect touch to these cookies. We used pastels that we found at Michael's however you can use any color.
  • Pink gel coloring - gel coloring is so much easier to work with. Liquids can change the consistency of the recipe you are working on. But, if you don't have gel you can substitute regular liquid food coloring in this recipe.

Equipment
  • Baking sheet
  • Rolling pin - I bought this one with the removable rings for my daughter to learn how to roll out dough. However, I loved it so much I use it myself.

Storing and freezing instructions

Store baked cookies in an airtight container on the countertop (at room temperature) for 3 days.

Freezing instructions: Place baked cookies in a zip-top freezer bag, press out the air as you seal it. Easter Pinwheel Cookies will keep well in the freezer for about 6 months.

Easter Pinwheel Cookies are soft and chewy sugar cookies with a festive Easter spin. They're incredibly easy to make. This simple recipe will have you enjoying these tasty treats in no time. It is so easy you can use your favorite recipe or mine. Even store-bought dough will work in a pinch.

ingredients:

instructions:

How to make Easter Pinwheel Cookies

  1. Separate dough into 2 halves. Add pink food coloring to one half. Add 1/2 of your cookie dough to a stand mixer and add pink food coloring until your mixture reaches your desired color. You can also knead food coloring into dough until completely combined if you do not have a stand mixer. I recommend wearing gloves for this.
  2. Place the pink cookie dough on parchment paper. Roll the pink cookie dough to about 1/4 inch thick rectangle. Set aside.
  3. Place plain cookie dough on parchment paper (or wax paper). Roll the plain cookie dough out to about 1/4 inch thick rectangle. Stack cookie dough sheets on top of one another with the parchment on the outside.
  4. Remove the top parchment and roll over the dough gently with a rolling pin (to help the 2 doughs become one). Begin on one end and roll the cookie dough into a log (removing the remaining paper as you go). If the dough is too soft to work with, refrigerate for 30 minutes and then try again.
  5. Once the dough is formed into a log, use your hands to shape the log thinner at the top and rounded at the bottom, so when it is sliced it will look like an egg shape. Wrap tightly with plastic wrap and refrigerate for 1 hour.
  6. Meanwhile: pour sprinkles into a cookie sheet. Unwrap dough and roll into sprinkles. Rewrap and refrigerate 1 hour to overnight.
  7. Preheat oven to 350ΒΊF.
  8. Slice cookies and place on cookie sheet covered with parchment paper or with a silpat mat about 1 inch apart. Bake according to your sugar cookie directions or until the cookies feel set.
  9. Allow to cool for 5 minutes on the cookie sheet and then transfer to a cooling rack to cool completely.
DONNA'S NOTES
  1. I highly recommend using our Best Ever Sugar Cookie Dough recipe here: https://zeromediasystem.blogspot.com//search?q=easter-pinwheel-cookies
  2. Gel food coloring is best, but if you can not find it regular food coloring will work.
