Pizza In a Pan

This scrumptious Pizza Pasta Skillet is a simple one One-Pot Pizza Pasta Skillet
My dad's mom is from Naples, Italy so growing up we enjoyed many recipes from the old country. Food brings people together and that was exactly the case at my grandparents house. There seemed to always be a pot of sauce on the stove and something delicious cooking. And when there wasn't one of our favorite things to do was to explore the neighborhood and walk down to the deli and grab a "slice". The Italian deli by grandma's house had the best of all things Italy, but the pizza was out of this world!

Brilliantly colorful pizza Margherita with its gorgeous green (basil), white (mozzarella cheese) and red (tomato sauce) ingredients was created and named after the first queen of Italy. It totally reminds me of my grandma!

I took the classic pizza Margherita and transformed it into the most scrumptious one-pot pasta dish. It is loaded it up with hot sausage and mini pepperoni, corkscrew cellentani pasta, Classico® Tomato Basil pasta sauce, mozzarella and Parmesan cheese.

It is absolutely the best one-pot pizza dish we have ever tasted. The vibrant flavor of the sauce really elevates the dish. The entire family devoured this one and you will too.

One-Pot Pizza Pasta Skillet

This scrumptious Pizza Pasta Skillet is a simple one-pot wonder. Just dump it all in the pot and cook. It couldn't possibly get any easier. It's redefining pizza Friday. Loaded with pasta, sausage, pepperoni, tomato sauce and ooey gooey cheese. It is sure to be a favorite!
prep time: 5 MINScook time: 15 MINStotal time: 20 mins

Ingredients

  • 1 pound hot smoked sausage, cut into coins
  • 1/2 cup mini pepperoni, divided
  • 8 ounces uncooked cellentani pasta
  • 1 (15 ounce) jar pasta sauce
  • 2 cups reduced sodium chicken stock
  • 2 cups shredded mozzarella cheese
  • 1/4 cup shredded Parmesan cheese
  • 5 fresh basil leaves, torn or chiffonade

Instructions

  1. In a large skillet over medium-high heat add the sausage, half of the pepperoni, uncooked pasta, pasta sauce and chicken stock. Stir to combine and cover. Bring to a boil. Reduce to medium and cook until pasta is al dente, about 10-12 minutes. When the pasta is cooked there will be some liquid in the pan. That will create a delicious sauce for the pasta as it cools.
  2. Stir in half of the mozzarella. Top with the remaining mozzarella, Parmesan cheese and the remaining pepperoni.
  3. Place under the broiler until the cheese is ooey gooey and melted, about 2 minutes.
  4. Sprinkle with basil.
  5. Serve and enjoy!

One-Pot Pasta Puttanesca

One-Pot Pasta Puttanesca is an easy recipe for an out of this world pasta dish with a sumptuous puttanesca sauce that you will never forget. The whole thing cooks in one pot, even the pasta! Almost no work required, just dump your ingredients in and let your stove do the rest!
is an easy recipe for an out of this world pasta dish with a sumptuous puttanesca sauce t One-Pot Pasta Puttanesca

What is puttanesca sauce made of?

I’m just going to start this off by saying that you’re going to want to make this puttanesca sauce by the end of this- out of pure curiousity. Why?

Not because of the twist on a the traditional tomato sauce that we all know and love. Not because you’re an olive fan. Not because you love the vinegary tang of capers.

No, not because of any of that. You’re going to want to make it because spaghetti all puttanesca literally means “spaghetti in the style of a prostitute.” I swear to God, that’s not a joke.

I’m Jacqueline, and I blog over at Go Go Go Gourmet- my mantra is all about “less effort, more taste”.

I have definitely achieved that with this incredibly simple, but absolutely delicious pasta dish that is a guaranteed family dinnertime hit. I’m so happy to be bringing my recipe philosophy over to my friends Donna and Chad here at TSRI!

Now, back to my story, I also have no inkling as to why it is that way- I can’t find any actual official record of how this delicious pasta sauce got it’s colorful name, but it’s a great story and I’m sort of in love with it.

Apparently, this dish was invented in Naples, Italy in the mid 20th century. The legend says that the recipe was invented by Italy's "ladies of the night" as a way to lead men to their doors.

Who knows the truth, but I have to tell you that I know I am madly deeply in love with this sauce and its delicious Mediterranean flavors.

It starts out by deeply flavoring olive oil with red chili pepper flakes, garlic and briny anchovy paste. Then you build the sauce on the flavorful oil.

The richly aromatic tomato sauce becomes spectacular with the addition of lemony capers and ripe black olives.

It couldn't be much easier as the pasta cooks right in the sauce and absorbs all of tht deliciousness. This is a keeper!

Helpful Tips to make One-Pot Pasta Puttanesca:

  • I like using anchovy pasta instead of actual anchovies when I cook. As an ingredient, it’s easier to handle, and leftovers are easy to store and it is not offputting to those who are generally opposed to eating anchovies.
  • Try using tongs to twist the pasta in the past half way through for the best results.
  • If you choose to use fresh pasta in this recipe, cut the water to 1/2 cup.
  • Dried Italian Seasoning is a fabulous convenience ingredient. If you do not keep it on hand, combine 1 teaspoon dried basil, 1 teaspoon rosemary, 1/2 teaspoon oregano and 1/2 teaspoon dried thyme.
  • This dish is just spicy enough to make your tongue tingle. For a very mild sauce, reduce the red pepper flakes to 1/2 teaspoon.

What you will need to make One-Pot Pasta Puttanesca:

  • A large deep skillet- wide enough to stir in dried pasta noodles, yet deep enough to easily hold the sauce at its highest volume.
  • Wooden spoon- to stir and break up your ingredients.

Enjoy!

Shrimp Alfredo is one of those dishes that I see on a menu and just have to order, and few years ago I decided that I needed to learn to make it myself.

I had always assumed it would be difficult but I was totally wrong. Shrimp Alfredo is not only easy to make it takes less than 30 minutes!

How do you make the Best Shrimp Alfredo?

You can make seafood pasta with a red sauce, but what makes this dish stand out is the rich, creamy, Alfredo sauce.

It’s a white sauce made with a combination of butter, cream, garlic, Parmesan, and just a pinch of nutmeg.

is a unforgettable dish of tender fettuccini and succulent shrimp tossed in a rich and cr Shrimp Alfredo
Sounds pretty awesome right? The best part is it only takes about 15 minutes to make. That’s faster than you could heat up a jar of the store bought stuff and making it from scratch is so much better!

Once your sauce is ready you add your pasta, and some big, beautiful, perfectly cooked shrimp to it and toss everything together.

That cheesy, buttery, creamy Alfredo sauce coats everything in the most amazing way and dinner is served.

Helpful Tips to make Shrimp Alfredo:

  • Use a flat pasta such as fettuccine or linguine for a rich, creamy sauce like Alfredo. The thin, flat, noodle is able to handle the weight of the sauce, and it gives you more surface area for that delicious Alfredo sauce to cling to!
  • Don’t overcook your shrimp! This is a quick and easy recipe and that is partly because shrimp only takes a few minutes to be fully cooked. Add a little butter to your pan, toss in your shrimp, and cook them for about 2 minutes on each side or until they are fully pink. Then they are ready to eat!
  • Don’t skip the heavy cream. I know it might be tempting to substitute something lighter but the heavy cream is part of what gives this sauce its rich flavor and velvety texture.

What you will need to make Shrimp Alfredo:

    • Deep Saute Pan You’ll want a deep pan for Shrimp Alfredo so you can make your sauce and then add the pasta to it and toss. This is one is big enough to do the job!
    • Colander - This awesome colander makes it so easy to drain the water from your pasta!

    Enjoy!

Baked Ziti Skillet in 25 Minutes

25-Minute Baked Ziti Skillet is inspired by my mom and her love of simple dinners and special occasions, but also my need to have fewer dishes to wash. This entire recipe is prepared in one pan and there is enough inactive cook time that you can have your entire kitchen cleaned when you put dinner on the table!
is inspired by my mom and her love of simple dinners and special occasions Baked Ziti Skillet in 25 Minutes

One skillet meals are a new favorite of mine.  I love taking a complicated meal and turning it into a one skillet meal in 30 minutes.

After spectacularly creating a one skillet ravioli meal and a one skillet lasagna, my favorite baked ziti has been transformed into a skillet and is ready in just 25 minutes.

Growing up it seemed like all special occasions called for baked ziti. Even though it may have been simpler than our traditional lasagna, it was still quite an ordeal. My mom was a master of simple dinners for a family of 7.

When it came to special occasions in my mother’s home, the mealtime rule book was tossed out – dinner preparation consisted of no less than 4 pots and pans as well as a casserole dish or two.

My chore was washing the dishes, so let’s say I didn’t look forward to clean up on these nights.  That said, I loved being in the kitchen and cooking with my mom and dad, and I also enjoyed setting the table, plating the food, and all around just being together.

This 25-Minute Baked Ziti Skillet is inspired by my mom and her love of simple dinners and special occasions, but also my need to have fewer dishes to wash.

This entire meal is prepared in one pan and there is enough inactive cook time that you can have your entire kitchen cleaned when you put dinner on the table, only 25 minutes from prep to plate!

Just like the oven-made variety, this skillet is packed with cheese, sauce, pasta and hot Italian sausage to give it a fantastic kick!  If you prefer it without the kick; use mild or sweet.

With love from our Simple Kitchen to yours!

It is truly magical with all the baked ziti flavor and very little clean up.  One skillet and 25 minutes is just about heaven to me, but just wait until you bite into it!

Helpful Tips to make Baked Ziti Skillet in 25 Minutes:

    • Using fire-roasted tomatoes in place of crushed or diced tomatoes gives recipes a depth of flavor that makes you think it cooked all day long.

What you will need to make Baked Ziti Skillet in 25 Minutes:

      • A large skillet with a lid – To help the pasta cook evenly, a wide skillet works best, ideally one that’s more than 12 inches in diameter.
      • Mixing Bowl-I like a variety of mixing bowls and prep bowls and this set has them all.

      Meat Lovers Pizza Pinwheels

Easy Pizza Pinwheels are loaded with your favorite meat lovers toppings for the perfect grab and go game day snack! The best part is you can make them ahead and freeze them for a simple meal anytime.

are loaded with your favorite meat lovers toppings for the perfect grab and go game day s Meat Lovers Pizza Pinwheels

We are so excited to be partnering with our friends at Jones Dairy Farm to bring you a scrumptious breakfast (or brunch) recipe. With overnight instructions, it is perfect for everyday, starring one of my favorite ingredients: Antibiotic Free No Sugar Chicken Sausage Links!

These days we are all paying more attention to labels with Jones Dairy Farm you know you are getting great quality and incredible flavor.

These great tasting all-natural chicken sausage links are a perfect addition to these pinwheels. They have no additives like sugar, nitrates, MSG or artificial flavors and are packed with 10 grams of protein per 3 link serving.

They are also precooked so I can cut them up and add them to whatever I am cooking or pop them in the microwave. All around, a protein that I can feel good about feeding to my family.

      How to Make Pizza Pinwheels

Pizza is such a popular game day food, but these pinwheels are sure to kick up the fun factor! The dough is slightly crisp on the outside and tender inside. It’s like unrolling a little piece of heaven wrapped in marinara, your favorite meat toppings and ooey gooey cheese.

Simply roll out your favorite dough. Top with your favorite marinara, I use this homemade sauce but store bought is perfect too. Then scatter your chicken sausage, bacon, beef and pepperoni over the sauce.

You can make rows of the toppings, but I love to get all of them in each bite. Especially those scrumptious chicken link coins! {{swoon}}.  Sprinkle with cheese. Lots of cheese. Then you roll it up and slice it into 12 pinwheels. Easy peazy!!!

How do I Make Pizza Dough

I use a really simple pizza dough with only 5 minutes of rise time. The trick is to make it a little sticky so it can rise in the oven.

But, honestly, if you are short on time, you can even substitute store-bought pizza dough.

The best part is that you can make them ahead and warm them to serve when you are ready, which makes them party-perfect! Easy party + fun food = happy mama!

Swoon! Everyone went nuts over these. Munchkin loves them anytime she can get them; I mean, hello, they are pizza!

These pinwheels are the perfect grab and go meal too. We made these while my dad was here visiting from Florida and they were just what we needed as we dashed out the door for fun family time.

I will let you all know that you can pick up Jones Dairy Farm products at your local retailer.

The company’s products are distributed nationwide, so be sure to check out their product locator so see where you can pick some up.

If you’re looking for the breakfast sausage, it’s in the freezer section.

Helpful Tips to make Meat Lovers Pizza Pinwheels:

      • These freeze wonderfully. Simply allow them to cool to room temperature after baking. Store in a gallon-size zip-top bag in the freezer. When you are ready to eat, just thaw them and bake at 350°F for 10 minutes, or until warmed through.
      • Preshredded cheeses generally have anti-caking ingredients that will absorb moisture from your food. Shredding your own cheese makes for more predictable cooking results.
      • Adding sugar to tomato-based recipes helps balance the tartness and coax the sweet side out of the tomatoes.

      Ingredients

      For the Dough
      • 2 1/4 teaspoons active dry yeast (1 packet)
      • 1 tablespoon granulated sugar
      • 1 1/2 cups warm water (110°–115°F)
      • 2 tablespoons extra virgin olive oil
      • 3–3 1/2 cups all-purpose flour, divided
      • 1 tablespoon Italian seasoning
      • 1 teaspoon kosher salt
      • 1 teaspoon garlic powder
      For the Filling
      • 4 tablespoons unsalted butter, melted
      • 1 cup your favorite pizza sauce
      • 2 cups freshly shredded mozzarella cheese
      • 1/2 package thawed Jones Dairy Farm Antibiotic free chicken sausage, cut into coins
      • 1/2 cup mini pepperoni
      • 1/2 cup cooked ground beef
      • 5 slices cooked bacon, chopped
      • 1/2 teaspoons dried parsley
      • 1/4 teaspoon kosher salt

      Instructions

      1. Preheat the oven to 350°F. Prepare a baking sheet with a silicone baking mat or parchment paper. Set aside.
      2. In the bowl of a stand mixer fitted with a dough hook, combine the yeast, sugar and warm water. Swirl with a spoon to dissolve the yeast. Let the mixture rest until the yeast becomes foamy and aromatic, about 3 minutes.
      3. Pour the olive oil, 3 cups of the flour, Italian seasoning, salt and garlic into the bowl.
      4. Mix on medium speed until the dough comes together in one ball, and then knead for 3 minutes on medium to medium-high speed. The dough should be just a little bit sticky. When you touch your finger to the dough and pull away, you should have just a little dough on your fingertip.
      5. Add the remaining flour 1 tablespoon at a time as needed. The sticky dough is important to help the pizza pinwheels get a little lift as it cooks.
      6. Lightly flour your counter top. Form the dough into a ball and cover with a dish towel. Let the dough rest for 5 minutes.
      7. On a lightly floured counter top, roll the dough into a 12 x 18-inch rectangle.
      8. Spread about 1/2 to 1 cup of marinara over the dough, leaving a 1-inch border on the top edge (this is where you will pinch the dough together, if there is sauce here it will make it hard for the dough to stick together).
      9. Sprinkle sausage, pepperoni, beef and bacon over the top of the sauce. Then sprinkle the cheese over the meat.
      10. Starting at the long edge nearest you, fold the edge of the dough on top of itself and begin tightly rolling the dough away from you, pinching the pepperoni slices into the roll if they try to escape as you go. Use the last 1 inch of clean dough to seal the roll, pressing gently to keep it closed.
      11. Cut the roll in half and then cut those halves in half, giving you 4 logs. Cut each of those logs into 3 pinwheels, giving you 12 pinwheels total.
      12. Arrange the pinwheels cut side up on the baking sheet and spread them out so they are not touching. Bake for 20 minutes, or until they are golden brown and cooked through.
      13. Meanwhile, combine the remaining butter, parsley and salt in a small bowl. Stir together with a pastry brush or spoon. Brush the top and sides of the baked pinwheels with the butter mixture. Serve with the remaining marinara.

      DONNA’S NOTES

      1. These freeze wonderfully. Simply allow them to cool to room temperature after baking. Store in a gallon-size zip-top bag in the freezer. When you are ready to eat, just thaw them and bake at 350°F for 10 minutes, or until warmed through.
      2. Adding sugar to tomato-based recipes helps balance the tartness and coax the sweet side out of the tomatoes.
      3. Pre-shredded cheeses generally have anti-caking ingredients that will absorb moisture from your food. Shredding your own cheese makes for more predictable cooking results.
